I was away on holidays for a couple of weeks, attending amongst other things a performance of the entire of Wagner’s Ring Cycle – more on that in another post. I dropped into the club on Tuesday when I returned thinking it was the last night of fencing to discover that our summer league has been extended with the finals not now due to be held until Tuesday 26 July (foil) and Thursday 28 July (épée). I turned up late not expecting to fence and suddenly found myself standing on a piste, foil in hand with a line of people at the other end waiting to fence me in succession. There must have been seven or eight of them so it was quite exhausting. I’m not sure how I did but it seemed to be a case of win some, lose some. Still, it’s one way of warming up and getting back in to the swing of things.
